I don't know about you, but I'm really happy ecstatic that it is Friday. Lately, my week days are so busy that I don't have much time to do anything else but work and family stuff. Not that I'm complaining; being self employed is hard enough without worrying when the next job is going to come in. :)
A couple of weeks ago I promised that I would tell you all about my trip after NHS&W. While I didn't spend any money at the show, I did drop some serious cash at Davis Brook Farm. I spotted their sign on the way up to the show, and promised myself that we'd stop on the way back. That was made much easier when DH fell asleep in the car, so I just took a little detour. ;-) Not that he minded. He knows that daylilies have become a passion of mine this Spring. I've loved daylilies for years now, and since I planted my original bunch back 3 years ago, I haven't had the time to buy more and get them into the ground.
There has been one daylily I've been wanting for a while. Blue is the only color that you can't get in a daylily. Various gardeners have been working on it for sometime, but it just hasn't happened. They have been able to get close by developing daylilies with some blue in them. The one I've wanted is this:
Siloam David Kirchhoff
As you can see, there is a ring of blue around the throat of the lily.
I knew that Davis Brook had this daylily, but had no idea that we'd be passing so close to their farm.
I came home with a triple fan of this beautiful daylily, plus several others that caught my eye.
The following weekend I knew that the CT Daylily Society was having their annual daylily sale down in Avon. I managed to talk DH into making the trip down on a very wet and rainy Saturday morning. I came home with 9 different daylilies, including Baby Blues, Coldstream Guard and Anchors Aweigh.
None of the daylilies in my gardens have scapes on them yet, and I'm anxiously awaiting some. I check them every day to see any buds, but like they say "A watched pot never boils".
Instead, I content myself with some of the other flowering plants that have blossomed in the past couple of weeks.
Some of my irises.
And what is left of my yellow rhododendron.
Enjoy the weekend!
